GA2 Collage

For my graphics activity, I decided to create a collage. I chose to do a collage on a few of my favorite vintage comic book covers. Using Photoshop Elements 13 was useful for me in completing the last assignment so I chose to use the program to create my collage.

Comic Book Collage

I searched comic book covers on flickr and chose from a variety of covers. This was difficult to do because there were a lot of good ones to select from. I was inspired to use comic book covers because collecting comic books was one of my favorite hobbies as a kid. After searching for covers and finding the ones I wanted to use, I selected the download icon I wanted to use at the bottom of the image and downloaded it in an original or medium format on my MacBook. This was my first time using Flickr and found that it had a wide selection of photos to choose from. All images were for usage for everyone.

After saving the photos to my MacBook, I opened Photoshop Elements 13 to work on creating the collage.

I chose 4 of my favorite comic covers from what I selected off of Flickr. I then went to the "Create" tab and selected "Photo Collage." I then chose the layout to be 8.5 x 11 inches and after I clicked "OK," Photoshop Elements 13 automatically took the photos I saved and made them into a collage. One obstacle was figuring out how to use only the 4 photos I selected and not the ones I saved to the MacBook. I had to return to the selected comic book covers and delete them from the list so only the 4 I wanted to use were made into the collage.

Another challenge was positioning the covers I selected to where each cover received an equal amount of space on the collage. This took some playing around with as I had to resize and turn the images without leaving in spaces, gaps, or overlapping features I believed to be important on the collage. After I was satisfied with the image, I made the mistake of clicking "File" and first choosing the "Save As" option where the collage saved as a "Photo Project Format" and I was unable to adjust the settings as a jpeg. I then tried clicking the "Save for Web" option and I was able to adjust the image setting to fit under 100K by making the photo a 360 x 500.

This project was challenging in which I had to do a lot of manipulating of the selected images on Photoshop Elements Editor 13 so they can fit properly within the collage. It was also difficult to remove the images I didn't need for the collage in which I had to delete the images I didn't intend to use from my MacBook. Photoshop Elements Editor 13 has multiple ways to edit and alter images that not only did I have to learn how to create the collage, but I had to find the option where it allowed me to create the collage on the program. I learned how to use different layouts for the collage which allowed me to position the photos with much more ease. Once I became familiar with making the adjustments, I found that using Photoshop Elements 13 in editing photos a much more valuable resource.
