Description
I decided to create a movie on one of my favorite brands of shoes that I enjoy wearing, Vans. In order to create this video, I had to search for images that were relative to my movie. After saving these images from flickr, I used http://webresizer.com/ to make the images I wanted to use smaller in size. With the dowloaded images saved to my computer, I dragged the images into my new iMovie file and they were automatically uploaded to the movie. Transitions were also put into place but I edited them into a scrapbook style to fit the theme of movie. Each image of the shoe was shown for about 3 seconds each. I realized that I had to drag each desired transition theme between the image for the effect. The next step for me was labeling each image with the style of shoe that the Vans created along with the year that the shoe was introduced which served as my very brief narration of each shoe. The final step was using http://freeplaymusic.com/index.aspx to search for a free sound to set the tone for my movie. For the sound, I selected the song "American Noise" from the Surf Rock collection. I had to agree to the license agreement for the track to be used for class purposes before I was able to download the track and finally import it into my movie. The completed movie was saved and exported to Youtube and from there embedded to my wiki site.
Challenges
One of the main challenges that I encountered in this project was maneuvering through iMovie effectively. I do pretty well with creating slides through Powerpoint but iMovie is different in which it was difficult to discover where I could be able to pull the specific images I wanted to use even though they were saved to my computer. It became very tricky ordering my images and it took me some time to find out how long I wanted each image to be displayed before moving to the next one. I also didn't expect to have to drag each style of transition between the images to create scrapbook themed transition effect. Another challenge came in inserting the text for each image and placing it where I wanted it to. I would have loved to do more text within the images and I see this challenge as something that could be beneficial in creating more movies once it has been mastered. My las challenge came in saving the completed movie and finding it where it can be used for uploading. I found that all of my movies were successfully saved within iMovie.
New Things Learned
In working on this project, I learned how to incorporate what I've learned from previous assignments smoothly into the movie. In searching for the soundtrack that I wanted for this movie, I simply just imported the track into the movie. I found this to be an easy task in which all I had to do was select how long I wanted the sound to last, and drag it into the slides for the movie. I also learned that iMovie has capabilities to sync to YouTube, so once the movie was created I clicked "Share" in iMovie and selected the option to upload it to YouTube.
